Natural Plant-Based Spray

April 19th, 2009

Yesterday, I attended a Gardening Club session.  A NEA representative gave us a recipe to kill pests/insects like mealybugs.

Mealybugs are cottony-looking insects with piercing/sucking mouth parts. They suck the fluids from leaves and stems, robbing plants of essential nutrients. Mealybugs feed on all parts of the plant, but especially on tender new growth. Leaves wither and yellow and, on crop plants, fruit may drop prematurely.

Ingredients to ‘concoct’ Natural Plant-Based Spray:

1 tsp  Hot Chilli Powder
1 no. Garlic Bulb
1 no. Small Onion
1 ltr  Water
1 tsp Soap Powder

Blend the above together to mix well.  Spray on the infected parts of the plant once or twice a week.

My brinjal plant has mealybug.  Normally, I will trim off the parts that’s diseased.  In the end, my plant becomes “botak”.  Alas, a cure is found.  Gonna try soon.
